Why We Won’t be Using Social Media for the Poplin Pursuits Blog

Social media has become integral to society’s daily life as the world becomes increasingly connected. We use it to stay in touch with friends and family, to share photos and updates, and to keep up with the latest news and trends. However, at Poplin Pursuits, we have decided we won’t be using social media for our blog, and here’s why.

Shouting into the Void:

Social media is a very crowded space. Millions of users on platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are vying for attention, making it difficult for new bloggers to stand out and get noticed.

Even if you have great content, getting people to see it in the sea of other posts can take time and effort with little result.

The void isn’t for us and doesn’t align with what we want to do with this blog.

Distracting:

Secondly, social media can be a significant distraction. It’s easy to get sucked into the endless scroll of your newsfeed, and before you know it, hours have passed. Especially when you’re trying to figure out trends and what you should post.

Even more problematic when you’re already trying to create and plan content for your blog.

Even now, I have to allocate a specific time to research; otherwise, I get sucked into the information black hole. We can eliminate this distraction by avoiding social media and focusing on creating quality content on our website.

Mindset Matters:

Social media can be a breeding ground for negativity. Trolls, bullies, and other internet pests can make maintaining a positive and supportive online community difficult. Not to mention, there’s this thing called inspiration porn that breeds insecurity and unrealistic expectations.

Avoiding it can create a safer and more welcoming space for our readers.

We’re trying to pursue knowledge and excellence. Our way is going to be healthy, safe, and realistic.

Realism:

We will not sugarcoat images and use context from two-minute clips to create an alternate version of ourselves that is more appealing to get likes and follows.

Can you be authentic on social media? Yes.

We want to create our own space, not have a bubble inside of a bubble inside of a bubble. To build our site with followers & to help people.

Can you still get views?

We’re going to find out.

Right now, the strategy for the blog is to use Google search console and Pinterest. That should give us enough SEO to be searchable, with Pinterest also double acting as a social media type platform.

Reliability:

I have had clients with 10k followers lose their social media accounts. From being hacked, banned, and a disgruntled employee deleting the entire account (don’t ask).

Social media platforms are unreliable.

Years of work can be deleted in an instant, platforms die, and trends change.

Our website will build long-standing seo that will immediately drive traffic to our site, not someone else’s.

Time is Non-refundable:

Finally, social media can be a time sink. It takes time to create and curate content for your profiles, time that will be spent creating quality content for your blog.

By avoiding social media, we can free up that time and use it to make our blog the best it can be.

Wrap Up:

While a powerful tool for connecting with others and spreading your message, bloggers, you have better options. We won’t be using social media to eliminate distractions, create a safer and more supportive community, have more authenticity, and focus on creating quality content for our readers.

How about you?

Well, We won’t be using social media.
